This past weekend I got to go to lunch with my parents in Greenville, NC to a great lunch stop, Winslows Deli and Tavern. If you ever go, you have to get the hot chips! They are homemade chips and I can seriously eat an entire basket by myself (hey, everything in moderation, right?!? ) For the day, I chose to wear my new favorite sweater I recently purchased from my trip to California. I found this amazingly soft and comfy Trouve colorblock sweater in the Santa Monica Nordstrom. [Read more…]

As a special part of our collaboration, Socialite Pink has asked that I choose a woman from my own life who has inspired me and Socialite Pink has generously offered to send this person a necklace! This is a chance for me to recognize another woman who’s meant so much to my own life and who I’d love to encourage with a piece of SPARKLE. I’ve chosen my mother, Amy Dickens, who is my role model, my biggest supporter and friend! I am so thankful to have a Mom that has always been so selfless, putting others before her and always there to lend a helping hand or an ear to any current situation I am dealing with. I think that a mother-daughter relationship is such a treasure in this life! Thank you, Mama for always telling me to reach for the stars and for being the Godly woman that you are! Thank you for all the lessons and love that you have shown me all 27 years of my life! I thank God for you every day! I love you and deserve this Sparkle to brighten your day because you are the Sparkle in anyone’s day that has the pleasure of being in your presence! You are a true GEM!

Is it just me or is it a little too soon for bathing suit season?! I have been battling with what to wear this time of year. Sun… I had almost forgotten what it felt like! This week, my husband had a work meeting in Dana Point, California (near Laguna Beach) so thankfully I got to tag along and enjoy the beautiful weather! The temperatures were in the 80’s when we arrived on Tuesday and then continued on for the remainder of the week in the mid 70’s and I couldn’t get enough! California is such a fun and different place! [Read more…]

This week I had the opportunity to attend a fun Galentine’s Day event, “Bouquets & Bubbly,” featuring jewelry designer, Kendra Scott hosted by Shelby Vanhoy of blog, “Pretty in the Pines” and Zelle Brown of blog, “Southern Style Blog.” When I got the invite to this amazing get together, I was elated! Both Shelby and Zelle have such impeccable style and poise and I was excited to get to attend an event thrown by the dynamic duo.
To start the night, my great friend and fellow blogger, Danielle Davis of “Danielle Davis Style,” and I went to Blown Away Raleigh in North Hills and had our hair curled for the night. I always love Blown Away and stylist Rose always does such a phenomenal job, she just knows what I want, “Thank You, Rose!” After getting ready, we made our way to Fayetteville Street in Downtown Raleigh to The Glassbox! The Glassbox is located on the 5th floor above venue The Stockroom and is the absolute most beautiful venue for a wedding shower, girls night out, day of wedding preparation and the list goes on. If you are getting married soon or know anyone looking for a quaint venue, tell them to check it out!
As we stepped out of the elevator we were immediately greeted by sounds of laughter, clanking bottles and a spread of stunning h’orderves that were almost too perfect to eat! The Cupcake Shoppe in downtown Raleigh had made the most perfect cupcakes with such beautifully crafted flowers! If you are looking for amazing cakes or delicate pastries in the Triangle area for any event, you should definitely check them out! There was also a Nail bar by the adorable Paintbar Nail Bar located in Raleigh, a bouquet making station by Lindsay McMillan of Flowers & Flour and of course, KENDRA SCOTT jewels!
The night was filled meeting bloggers who I had connected with on social media, sharing stories and lots and lots of laughter! The night was truly perfection! As if the event weren’t enough, we were each given a special Kendra Scott gift to take home! I got the cutest Camelia Earrings in Black Pearl and I have linked them here. For the evening I chose a flirty Amanda Uprichard peplum blouse, black J Brand ripped capris (these are soo comfy and perfect to carry into Spring) and my Valentino Rockstud pumps. My earrings are from new and upcoming designer Raven & Riley! These amazing leather tassel earrings are so lightweight and gorgeous! I can’t forget to also link my absolute “go-to” red lipstick, which is no shocker… MAC Ruby Woo. If you have been searching for the “perfect” red, your search ends now!
Hope you all had a WONDERFUL Valentine’s Day!

Today I just woke up and felt the urge to write and say, “Thank You” to all of you who have supported and read my blog since I launched it in September. “Make Today a Hollyday,” has been a new, exciting and at times challenging venture for me and the fact that you all are still reading and supporting me truly humbles me, “Thank You!” In these 5 short months I have really made a lot of new friends, learned so much and realized a few things about myself. I have had some amazing personal milestone moments and some, “reality check” (for loss of words) moments as well.
Starting any new venture or business, it is so easy to get caught up in your own world and forget about the world going on around you. There is always the pressure with any new venture of learning the ropes, working through kinks and following the latest trends that it’s sometimes hard to stop and “be present.” It’s so easy, especially being a blogger, to get so caught up in all the various social media channels that vie for our attention on a daily basis! I mean how many are there?! Trying to keep up with a Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and my completely absent Twitter (hahaha) require a good chunk of my day and they are still lacking. I often ask myself if the world could get any MORE connected?!
I recently sat in a restaurant at dinner and looked around at all of the people on their phones. I was honestly shocked at the number of couples, at dinner together, who were both on their phones “scrolling” and barely had any interaction (I have totally been guilty, so I’m not pointing fingers :))! As I was thinking about this situation I started to feel sad that there are so many moments in my own life that I had missed being, “plugged in” to the social media world all the time. It’s so easy when we are “scrolling” to look at someones highlights and create a, “reality” in our minds that actually doesn’t exist. Even prior to blogging I found it was so easy to get caught up in the comparison game and the feelings of inadequacy that follow.
I know that I am human and by being a human I will forever make mistakes, but I am going to try in 2016 to, “Be More Present!”. I am going to try and spend more quality time with my husband, friends and family without always grabbing my phone. It’s those moments with that ones that we love that we can never get back and its those moments that make up a life.
I don’t hate social media by any means, this problem came from the fact that I actually LOVE it and I LOVE connecting and meeting all of YOU! I have seriously been so blessed to have created and cultivated so many friendships through blogging, Instagram and Facebook and I honestly do love seeing everyone’s posts and sharing in exciting moments with you all! I am a firm believer that supporting others is so important. There is no place for negativity and tearing others down!
I am so thankful for all of the amazing friends, family and bloggers that have supported me through this amazing journey and I would not be where I am today without each and every one of you! I think it’s always so important to stop and “reset” every now and then an evaluate yourself and your motives.
I can’t wait to continue on in this journey with you all! My goal is to be authentic and real and I also want to know what you all want to see and read! Please email me or leave a comment on something that you want to see on the blog and I will do my best to make it happen! Thank you all again and Happy Wednesday!
